Epiphany Lutheran Church
Commissioned Commemorative Illustration
Look closer for two logos, three hand gestures,
and five text blocks:
• the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod logo; the Epiphany Lutheran Church Logo;
• children’s hands expressing, “This is the church. This is the steeple. [Open the doors] and See all the people.”
Artist note, “Open the doors” is intentionally not drawn.

That creative piece to this story is purposefully left to the people of Epiphany Lutheran Church. I pray God-speed, divine blessing, and abundant prosperity as you “open the doors” to the future God has in store for this place.;

The story:
Epiphany Lutheran Church in Bastrop, where there’s a place for you, is a place where people connect through the unearned love of God, grow by the truth of His Word and Spirit, and multiply as disciples—sharing the message of Christ Crucified in the Bastrop community and beyond! We hope you can find the answers you’re looking for here…
Who we are…
First and foremost, we are Christians. We are a recently chartered (May 2023), member congregation of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. Our pastor, Rev. E.B. Holschuh, has been with us since January 2024.
Our name….
The Lutheran Church gets its name from Martin Luther, a 16th-century Roman Catholic priest and theology professor in Germany who found himself at odds with the church he loved over, among other issues, the sale of forgiveness of sins (called “indulgences”) and was excommunicated by the pope. This explains why Lutheran pastors wear robes and stoles in (pardon the pun) Catholic fashion, and why Baptism and Communion in our church are considered sacraments.
In the unofficial history of Epiphany Lutheran Church put together by one of our founding members for the chartering ceremony in May 2023, he writes, “We adopted the name Epiphany Lutheran Church because we anticipated having our first service on or around the Feast of the Epiphany in 2022…”
Where we are…
We gather for worship at 124 Three Oaks Lane, (off Shiloh Road between North Gaines Road and FM 20).
When we gather…
We offer Sunday school for adults and children at 9am followed by fellowship time (coffee & donuts) at 10am; we gather for Sunday worship at 10:30am. We also offer regular adult Bible study opportunities.
Our worship service…
Whether you’re exploring the faith or looking for a church home, you are welcome to join us for Sunday morning worship! Our worship bulletins are available on our website…
We sing hymns accompanied by a pianist, respond, pray, and confess together during worship, which begins with corporate Confession and Absolution, followed by three passages from Scripture (typically Old Testament, Epistle, and Gospel), a sermon from our pastor, confession of our faith in the words of either the Apostles’ or Nicene Creed, corporate prayer, the Lord’s Supper (Communion), and concludes with a blessing. (And you don’t have to have it all figured out to be here. We’re all learning to live in the grace and truth of Jesus together!)
What we believe…
We believe in the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (one God in three Persons).
At the center of our faith is Jesus Christ crucified, true God and true man, who died for our sins and rose again to give us eternal life. We are saved by God’s Grace Alone, through Faith Alone, in Christ Alone. This Good News shapes everything we teach, preach, and practice.
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and we gather around His promises in Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Communion)*—where Christ is truly present for us.
*What we believe and confess is outlined and explained simply and clearly in Martin Luther’s Small Catechism, an instructional “guide” to the Christian faith.
