Larry Wilson

Larry Wilson was born on December 2, 1954 at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas. When he was 5 years old, his parents moved to Houston, Texas. Larry grew up in Houston, being exposed to music at an early age. His interest in music continued while he was attending Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston from 1971 to 1973. Moving to Austin he began his career in music. As Austin began to grow rapidly, so did Wilson’s networking with local artists and venues.

Larry Wilson and the Space Heaters released his first cd, “Enjoy the Ride,” in 1997.

Wilson started serving with the music team at Christian Life Austin in 1996. During that time, Larry recorded his second cd, a full-gospel album, “He Holds On.” The album demonstrates how important a relationship with God has been for Larry.

During seventeen years of his career as a lead guitarist, Wilson toured the USA, Canada, and Europe with the late Jimmy LaFave. Wilson also played with musicians such as Jackson Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis, and “I’ll never forget touring with LaVelle White.”

In 2001, after a 25-year career as a lead guitarist, Larry Wilson started a musical instrument store. Larryland Music opened on March 7th, 2011. The store is an outstanding resource for musicians. Inside the cozy 1800s building, you’ll find an extensive inventory of electric and acoustic guitars, mandolins, violins, banjos, fiddles, drums, and much more. New, used, or vintage — you’ll be able to find the right instrument for you. There’s also an assortment of amplifiers and musical accessories as well. As Larry likes to put it, “We carry new, used, and consignments, and we buy, sell, or trade just about any instrument you have.” If Larryland doesn’t have what you’re looking for in stock, he can often order it on the spot.

On the first Friday of every month, Larryland hosts Pickin’ on the Porch to gather as many as 30 to 40 musicians from the community for a jam session at the shop. Wilson has hosted this event every month since April of 2011. “We have only missed three: freezing rain, or if it is over a hundred degrees at closing time. – For us, our customers come first, and we wouldn’t want it any other way. Ready to discover what’s, ‘Just East of Weird’?”

In 1994, Larry met Debra Albrighton at a bar called Hole in the Wall, in Austin Texas. In 2009, Larry married Deb. Between them they have four grandchildren.
